April 21, 2012  Nikki Grahame, about her new book Fragile
Nikki Grahame picture - 1_120_nikki_grahame_fragile_bookcover.jpgHi everyone,

For all of those anticipating the re launch of 'Fragile' it will be on the shelves in WHSmiths on the 10th May which is very exciting! It is also available now online at Amazon.

Just to let you know 'Fragile' is an extension of 'Dying to be Thin' so it has been updated to include what I've been up to since the last launch.

I have also removed sections that I was not happy with and that are no longer relevant. I felt it was important that I did this as so much has happened over these last few years. And I wanted to share it with you all and continue to be honest and open about my ongoing battle with anorexia and personal life.

Anyway I hope you all enjoy, catch you soon.

Nikki's News

December 24, 2012  Nikki is spending Christmas in Liverpool, with the magic of panto as fairy god mother
Nikki Grahame picture - _200_nikki_grahame_christmas.jpgNikki is spending Christmas in Liverpool as fairy Godmother in Cinderella. With great reviews with the panto Cinderella at the Epstein theatre. Nikki is a Beatles Fan and is enjoying her time in Liverpool making new friends and the family are coming to see her in Cinderella, her mum, sister and nepthew Sunny. But she'll be staying in Liverpool for the big day itself and as a Beatles fan she's looking forward to exploring the city.

Here is what Liverpool Echo had to say on the website:

SHE wielded a hairdryer and scissors in Celebrity Salon – despite breaking an arm on a night out while filming the TV show in Ireland.

And now, arm fully functioning again, Nikki Grahame (pictured) is the proud possessor of a magic wand in Cinderella, currently at the Epstein Theatre.

"I do all the fun bits," she says of her role as Fairy Godmother in the theatre's inaugural festive production since it was refurbished and renamed (as the Neptune of course it had a long tradition of panto).

"I played Princess Jasmine in Aladdin at Kettering the year before last, and last year I did Cinderella – again I was Fairy Godmother so I know the part well."

The 30-year-old arrived in the public arena as a contestant on Big Brother back in 2006, and later she was runner up in Ultimate Big Brother as well as having her own TV show, Princess Nikki.

But don't assume the reality TV star, who published an autobiographical book Fragile – writing candidly about her battles with anorexia – earlier this year, doesn't know her way around a stage.....

If you are in Liverpool why not catch up with Nikki at the Epstein Theatre, the panto runs until January 6th.

June 15, 2012  Nikki Grahame on Bit on the Side
Nikki Grahame picture - 1_200_nikki_grahame_bbbots_light_switch.jpgNikki was on the panel on Big Brothers Bit on the Side last tuesday night (12th June) with guests Justin Lee Collins and Jessica-Jane Clement.

Nikki is not fond of Chris and wants him out this week, she got all embarassed when Emma asked her if she fancied Arron and she eventually admitted of course!

Nikki was asked if she would have liked to have been able to discuss nominations as this years housemates can. Nikki said she wouldn't of liked to have been able to discuss nominations as she was paranoid enough in the house! Justin-Lee Collins said he would of loved to see nominations discussions in Nikki's year. It certainly would have been interesting given how paranoid the house was and especially Nikki's reaction to being nominated by Suzy which led to her famous catchcry "Who is she".

Nikki had some fun with a gag involving a light switch, for anyone who didn't see the highlight show beforehand - Arron wanted to go to sleep but everytime he turned the lights out Big Brother turned them back on again!

Watch the Video below for the two panel sessions Nikki was in, runs approx. 19 mins 30 secs.

April 10, 2012  Nikki Grahame is in HEAT magazine this week
Nikki Grahame picture - 1_200_Dscf0005_2jpg.jpgNikki talks exclusively to HEAT magazine this week about her anorexia relapse. Having to work out 2 times a day and only taking in 1200 calories. Nikki was on the road to recovery after attending regular body awareness sessions at a clinic. However she has now confessed that she is once again obsessively exercising and dieting.

Nikki has also admitted that her low weight makes her miserable, and that she fears she'll struggle with her body issues for the rest of her life.

"When I allow myself to get below 40kg (6st 4lb), I'll always be unhappy because my brain is starved. I've just got to stay above that weight." Continues Nikki, "It's something I will battle all of my life, but I want more than anything to get it under control." Read more at HEATWORLD.

Nikki came to Australia with her mother on Australia Day and stayed through February. She enjoyed her stay with visits to Taronga Park Zoo (see picture), Bondi Beach, Manly, Sydney Aquarium and around Darling Harbour. The weather wasn't that kind to her in Sydney which was being affected by the La Nina event (Pacific Oscillation) bringing a lot of rain. But she stayed on in Melbourne for another two weeks and enjoyed the sunshine there, visiting the Neighbors TV set and travelling The Great Ocean Road. Nikki seemed happy enough but she struggled with diet and the need for exercise and made regular visits to the gym even on holiday.

Nikki I am glad you are seeking help to overcome your issues with dieting and exercise. I just want you to know I am right behind and support you 100%. You also have lots of fans who love you, and you continue to inspire many suffers that read your book. You can overcome this Nikki as you have done before, just want you to be happy. Look forward to next time you and you mum come back to Australia.

May 17, 2012  Nikki Grahame in OK! Magazine this week.
Nikki Grahame picture - 1_150_OKMay222012A.jpgThis week Nikki talks to OK! magazine (5 page spread) about her lifelong battle with Anorexia. In the magazine photoshoot they have dolled her up as the 60's idol Twiggy, in a 30th birthday party style shoot.

Happy Birthday, Nikki!
I've just had my 30th. It didn't feel the best. I think I am starting to be a bit more grown up. My mum has moved away to Dorset so I'm having to be a bit more responsible these days. I really miss her - she used to help me with my accounts and all my money stuff and mortgages and things like that. In ten years I'd like to be rich, living in Paris with a hot French guy.

Did you enjoy posing for the shoot?
Twiggy was my idol. I still do adore her. it was fun dressing up like that - half of my wardrobe is 50's and 60's anyway.

Twiggy got her nickname because of how skinny she was, was her look dangerous for you because of your eating disorder?
I don't think it was dangerous. When I was getting ill as a girl I used to love Karen Carpenter and try to copy her more then Twiggy. Twiggy was healthy. But there was a film about the life and death of Karen Carpenter and I used to watch it over and over again and became slightly obsessed with it.

Most people would watch it and think, I don't want to go down that path...
I used to watch it and think, wow, I want to be like her. I wanted to starve myself to death. That's probably where it all began, really. Maybe it was a coincidence that the film came out when I was getting ill. Someone of normal mind set would see her life as a warning, but someone of an anorexic mind set would find it appealing.

Where are you now with your anorexia? There have been reports that you have been struggling...
I did have a bit of a tough time a month or so ago. I was rewriting my autobiography and I relived a lot of demons. I had to edit the whole thing by myself and take out the bits I didn't feel were relevant anymore. But I've got loads of good support networks around me, and really good friends.

Are you back to a healthy weight?
I'm never going to be a proper healthy weight but I'm getting better then I was.

You were weighing all your food and exercising obsessively...
I'll always go to the gym, but the weighing of food has calmed down a lot. I went for pizza last week. Someone got me a birthday cake and everyone had a small piece and I finished the rest off myself.

Nikki Grahame OK! magzine May 2012

What did you think about Vogue deciding they wouldn't feature unhealthy thin women on its pages? No heroin chic or size zero...
I think it's about time. It's fantastic that they are doing this. It should have been done ages ago. Vogue is one of the most elite fashion magazines so hopefully everyone will follow suit.

Would this have helped you?
To be honest, I think it's a chemical imbalance. I was born with this illness. But I do think the images encourage it.

Do you help a lot of young girls with eating disorders
I get loads of emails from young sufferers, people who have read my book and become inspired by me. It's really rewarding and it makes me think all the campaigning I do is worthwhile.

What revelations can we expect in your new book Fragile, Nikki?
My sister wrote the foreward, which is important to me. For years she's not been able to speak about my illness. She found it really hard going through it all. It has affected our relationship. She resented me for a long time - she is two years older and she saw it as if I was always getting all the attention because of my anorexia. We had a heart-to-heart about it and I wanted her to write about her own experience.

You must be thrilled to be auntie now - has it made you broody?
I love my nephew so much. When the time comes I will adopt from the age of five upwards. Some of these kids might come from damaged backgrounds... That doesn't worry me because I come from a very damaged background myself. If they are five and over, most of the hard work is done. I can't conceive, I won't adopt right away, I'm not ready to settle down yet.

Are you enjoying playing the field?
I love being single. I met a hot Parisian guy on my birthday. We kissed at midnight and he spoke French to me. It was so romantic! He said all kinds of seductive things.
'Voulez vous couchez avec moi, cesoir?' (Giggles) Something along those lines. But I didn't, I was a good girl. We stayed in touch but I think it was just a holiday romance. He was gorgeous.

Are you looking forward to Big Brother coming back?
Always! It's the best reality show on telly, isn't it? I love it! I will be watching every episode!

October 26, 2011  Nikki Grahame Interview in HEAT magazine
Nikki Grahame picture - 1_350_nikki_grahame_heat_mag_26_10_11.jpgNikki recorded this interview with HEAT magazine about her continued battle with anorexia. She has had a relapse but is seeking the right help.

Nikki's Interview with HEAT:-

After ten year, it breaks our hearts to report that Nikki Grahame'a anorexia has returned. After her first day back at an eating disorder clinic, heat sat down with Nikki for a frank and, at times, extremely difficult chat...

Nikki, we're so sorry. We thought these days were behind you.

They were. But I had a bunion removed in January and because I couldn't exercise for three months I started to panic that I'd get fat. So I cut my food down by half. Then as soon as I could, I started exercising to a ridiculous degree - but without increasing the food. I have this phobia of having more then 400 calories at any one time. I can't allow myself to sleep if I don't feel I've done enough exercise. I don't sit down for two hours after I've eaten.

Do you feel like you've lost control?

(looks very sad.) I feel like a bit of a failure. I've written my book and said thet I've beaten this illness, but now it's completely controlling me. I have to know where and when I'll be eating, at least two day's in advance, so I can gear myself up mentally. It just completely controls everything.

Your life doesn't sound happy...

I'm tormented. All I think about is this regimented schedule.

Is that why you've checked yourself into a clinic?

Yes, I go ro a clinic every day, from 10am till 4pm.

What happense in the clinic?

You have groups, like a self-esteem group, a relapse-prevention group, an art group, a body-awareness group...

And you have to eat what they tell you when you're there?

Yes, Yesterday I had to eat macaroni cheese. They supervise you so you can't throw up, and it scares the shit out of me. I'm going to stay there for a couple of weeks, then go back to my therapy once a week.

You've mentioned that you hear a voice in your head. Can you describe that voice?

It's just guilt. It's constantly reminding you that you don't deserve to be there. You're insignificant to everyone else. Unbelieveable self-loathing. I did have thoughts of harming myself when I heard a friend slag me off recently, because that just justifies how I feel about myself.

Why have you spoken about this today?

Talking about it is part of my counselling. I want to continue to be honest, because I've been an inspiration to people suffering out there and I've been inundated with e-mails.

What would be your advice to someone who is feeling the same way as you?

It's OK to ask for help. You deserve it as much as anyone else. There is a life out there and there's no point in wasting any more time on that voice inside your head. I'll get there. I just need to be steered in the right direction.
________________________________________

Nikki your not a failure and many people have drawn inspiration from your book. No one has done more to get the awareness of anorexia out to the public, you have worked so hard. Please don't feel bad about yourself, you have done the right thing getting help. We all love you and know you will bounce back.

September 1, 2011  Nikki Grahame in Closer Magazine this week
Nikki Grahame picture - 1_nikki_grahame_closer_30_aug_11.jpgNikki is in Closer Magazine this week with Closer's new columnist, life coach Marisa Peer, helping Nikki understand and tackle the causes of her low self-esteem and anorexia. It is an in depth and informative interview in question and answer format. Nikki's session with Marisa really gets to the heart of the issues that affect Nikki today. Read about Nikki's session with the life coach in this week Closer Magazine.

At the end of the session this is what Marisa and Nikki had to say:-

Marisa: Nikki's main issues is her low self-esteem and not feeling like she's good enough. Our session was a good beginning and although her deep-rooted problem's wont be solved overnight - it will take time and effort - the good news is she can resolve her issues.

I'm confident she can make herself happy by teaching her mind to think positive thoughts and then she will start to feel different. She can do this by repeating "I'm good enough" and "I am lovable" in her head, up to five times a day. The more she say's it the more real it becomes.

She can also do some visualisation work and imagine herself as an eight year old again. She should picture giving herself a hug, and showing herself around her home now, looking at all the things she has. Then Nikki should tell her young self she lives in her world now and it's a much happier place. This will stop her living in the past and help her to move on. If Nikki changes her thinking her whole life will change for the better.

Nikki: I found this session with Marisa so helpful - she's such a wonderful lady who put me at ease immediately. I was amazed at how much she knew and understood my personal history, and she came up with lots of solutions to help me overcome the torments in my head that I struggle with on a daily basis. I went away from the appointment feeling positive and energised and feeling ready to take on anything. I'm so glad I did it.

"What did you expect from The Vaccines?" were the words on everyone's lips after the release of their debut album on the 14th March this year. The band who consist of Justin Young (vocals), Freddie Cowan (lead guitar), Arni Hjorvar (bass) and Pete Robertson (drums) formed less than a year ago in June 2010 and have already reached heights of success which many recent british bands have yet to discover.

After their first London gig at the Flower Pot in Kentish Town, the band were signed to Columbia Records soon after releasing their debut single "Wreckin' Bar (ra ra ra)" which entered the uk singles chart at 157. This was followed by "Post Break Up Sex" which peaked at 32, and most recent "If You Wanna" (Hit The Floors personal favorite) which reached 53.
